Survival International – The movement for Tribal Peoples

Survival is the only international organization supporting tribal peoples worldwide. Founded in 1969 after an article     by Norman Lewis in the UK’s Sunday Times highlighted the massacres, land thefts and genocide taking place in Brazilian Amazonia. Like many modern atrocities, the racist oppression of Brazil’s Indians took place in the name of ‘economic growth’.

Today, Survival has supporters in 82 countries. They work for tribal peoples’ rights in three complementary ways: education, advocacy and campaigns. They also offer tribal people themselves a platform to address the world. They work closely with local indigenous organizations, and focus on tribal peoples who have the most to lose, usually those most recently in contact with the outside world.

They believe that public opinion is the most effective force for change. Its power will make it harder, and eventually impossible, for governments and companies to oppress tribal peoples.

CHILDS RIGHTS ES As an international organism established in Spain, Child’s Rights.es focuses on offering a worthy future to children living in the streets of India. Their aim is to provide these children’s needs with a home, food, medicine, education and our love and support. In February 2008, they opened the first home for 20 girls that we found in the streets of Jaipur (north of India), a city of 2,5 millions . of habitants where there are 200.000 children living in the street. The name of the orphanage is GANGA III, the Hindi name of the holy river GANGES – the idea behind the name is that these children are cleaning and purifying themselves with the holy water to start a new life. The 20 girls living at GANGA III were born in the streets where they survived during the last years. Some of them have parents unable to feed their kids; others have no one in their lives… The monthly cost of the entire project is 750 Euro. The success of this project depends on the support of generous friends and other sponsors in Germany, France and Spain, together with the organization “Smiling-Children” (www.smiling-children.de).If you wish to help in the mission you can sponsor a child for only 30 Euros a month! Incredibly, with so little money you will save a child from a life of poverty providing him/her with a home full of smiles and love, clean water, nutritious food, health care, education and professional orientation for a better future.
